Sending good vibes around

CanadaI have been given a few awards within the past few weeks, and it’s about time I acknowledge them properly!
These awards are tokens of appreciation that I get from fellow bloggers and I really like it when somebody notifies me that one has been bestowed on me. For example…

I was given the ‘Butterfly Award’ by Fran and Romi, Enzo and MaryJose (thank you all!)
image This one I send to my good friends Jackie (“Casi en serio”) and Andreína (“Poky, Dani y Andre”).

Carleen from “Life, Liberty and Good coffee” awarded me with the “Blog de ouro” (golden blog). Very appreciated!

image I will pass this one on to Ale from “El 22 reloaded” and Jams O’Donnell from “The poor mouth

Finally, Jientje from “Heaven is in Belgium”, gave me the “Friends” award. Gedankt, Jientje! :-)

Me? A daddy blogger?

CanadaMy blogbuddy Karen, author of "3 Garnets & 2 Sapphires" and alma mater of the "Silly Monkey stories" left me this message yesterday:

Hey Gabriel! I nominated you for this . . .

Though the link left little for the imagination, I went to check it out and found out that yes, I had been nominated for 'Dad blogger of the year' at Label Daddy. And I'm in such good company!!!

To say that I’m happy and/or proud would be an understatement. But there’s something else in there: during the almost four years I have been blogging, I’ve tried to find anything that would describe what I do here. Are these random thoughts, like I like to describe it? Is this a blog about my travelling, or about things I read somewhere else? Is this blog about other bloggers? Or what if Karen was right and this is a blog about a guy who happens to be the father of four kids, posts random thoughts and just travels too much?

imageI may have found what my motivation to write all this is, thanks to a random act of kindness coming from a blogbuddy that has created a meme that I never want to miss (and I haven’t miss any yet!), because not only it allows me to share the silly things my kids say or do, but also the things that I have said or done (or my brothers). There must be a reason why that is one of my favourite sections, don’t you think?

So yes, I’m a ‘daddy blogger’, and I’m darn proud of it. That being said, I know there’s no way in hell I can win this award, but just having been nominated is big enough for me. I have always thought that those ‘award’ we pass around are just token of appreciation and allow other readers find out what we like and why. I was extremely happy when I won the Canadian Blogger Award for my “Coming to Canada” story, and the same when I won 8th place in the Bloggers Unite’s “Acts of kindness” campaign. I’m currently nominated for a couple of Blogger’s choice awards, including “Best Parenting Blog”…

This nomination ranks up with these awards, but I actually like it better, because it’s not just about a post (or series of posts). Somebody actually thinks that my stories about my life and my family are worth reading.

That is one of the nicest things that has happened to me here. Thank you, Karen!

Gracias, Karen!

Catching up

CanadaMike, from “Pehuajeando pa’l mundo” (and later Lorena, from “Travesías de los Varsano Cagnotti”) and Snoogypie from “This and that” have given me some blog awards, which I accept and thank profusely.

The interesting thing is that in both cases, I got a ‘blog award combo’ containing three individual awards together. Since ‘da rules’ specify that you have to pass it on to five people, I will do that… for each one of the six!

I got a seventh award, along with Ale Betoño, and this one comes from the guy with 1,000 different identities (he goes by “David Madoff Guzman” this week, and his blog’s name is “DMG Pirámide Cultural”… at least this week!). However, that ‘award’ was tongue-in-cheek and with no instructions to forward it, so I will just accept it gratefully.

Wanna vote for me?

UKI missed out on the Canadian Blog Awards this year (but then yet again, nobody nominated me! :-)), but I am competing for another one!
If you click on the buttons below, you can vote for this site in the categories “Best Parenting Blog” and “Best Blog About Stuff” (which I believe describes this blog perfectly).

If you have any time, would you like to give it a shot? Thanks in advance. I’m not sure how it works, but if it’s too difficult to vote, don’t even bother! :-)

In the meantime, I’m here waiting until Dec/15 to see how did my blogbuddy Jacqueline do in this year’s “Best Photo / Art Blog” competition. Go Jackie!

Vamos Jackie!

My site was nominated for Best Parenting Blog!

A very special award

Please scroll down for my Wordless Wednesday post

CanadaBeing the very avid social blogger that I am, I have visited hundreds (thousands, perhaps?) of blogs from all over the world. Some of them left me in awe, either for the quality of their posts, or for the pictures they published… or both!

The Right Blue” is definitely among those favourite blogs of mine, and it belongs to the third category I described. Bobby and Jerry manage to give us one excellent post after another; they’re informative, educating, interesting… and fun! And then there’s the pictures!!!

I guess there’s nothing I can say that will make justice to this blog and the quality of what you see there, so all I will do is to recommend once again that you pay them a visit, like I do often. The last time I did, though, I got a great surprise. They had decided to acknowledge and thank those who they considered ‘friends of their blog’, and I was among those who were recognized. A big honour, without a doubt. Here is the badge they have created, which I will display on my sidebar (and then move to my ‘Awards’ section).

Once again, my thanks to Bobby y Jerry, and my recommendation for all of you to go and visit this blog, which has posts that aim really high (or should I say sink really deep?) ;-)

TheRightBlue

Argentina

A new blog award

bff_award

CanadaIt's been a while! :-)
Karen from "3 Garnets & 2 Sapphires" (perhaps better known as the host of "Silly Monkey Stories") has given me a blog award called "Blogging Friends Forever", which I really appreciate. Thank you, Karen!

Now I get to pick 5 blogbuddies to pass this award onto, and they are:
  1. Maria Clara, from "Maria con Maria" (Colombia)
  2. Milette, from "Momie Space" (Philippines)
  3. Russ, from "The unknown plus" (USA)
  4. Yen, from "Yenny Girl" (Japan)
  5. jAMie, from "Grace, too" (Canada)
I'm not going to put any pressure on my recipients, and I will totally understand if you decide not to pass the award onto other blogbuddies. If you do, however, there are a few rules:
  1. Only 5 people are allowed to receive this award
  2. Four (4) of them are followers of your blog.
  3. One has to be new to your blog and live in another part of the world.
  4. You must link back to who ever gave you the award.
Once again, thanks for honouring me with this, Karen!
UPDATE: Now I got the same award from Lorena, author of "Travesías de los Varsano Cagnotti". Thank you very much, Lorena!

Argentina
Hacía un buen rato ya! :-)

  1. Maria Clara, de "Maria con Maria" (Colombia)
  2. Milette, de "Momie Space" (Filipinas)
  3. Russ, de "The unknown plus" (USA)
  4. Yen, de "Yenny Girl" (Japón)
  5. jAMie, de "Grace, too" (Canadá)

A blog award!

CanadaI got a blog award ("Personal Effort Award") sent to me by Caro, from "La Mascarada". Hers is a blog I read daily, because of its very interesting content, whether they talk about current events or just innocuous gossip. I really appreciate this award, especially considering that somebody who runs such a successful blog (at least ten times bigger than mine) actually noticed me!

Below is the list of the people to whom I would like to present this award as well. I read their blogs daily, and I find them fantastic. Congratulations to all!

2 Memes I owe and 1 I like - and 1 award!

Canada

You wonder what a 'meme' is? Here's a good explanation by Chris G.

Here's a meme I owed Natalia, she passed it onto me back in February.
"Mention three things you always carry in your luggage when you travel, and one that you would like to bring but you almost never do. Explain why. Pass it on to 4 people"

Here are my answers:

  1. Socks: Way more than what I really need.
  2. A small First Aid kit: Just in case...
  3. My CPAP device: It's a pain to carry it around, but I need it so I can sleep.
One thing I would like to bring but I almost never do:
  1. A camera. Sometimes I do have time to take pictures...

I won't pass it on to anybody; please consider yourself tagged.

A few days ago,  I was tagged by Biddie. Here it is:

1. Post the rules before you give your answers. Done
2. List one fact about yourself beginning with each letter of your middle name. If you don't have a middle name, use your maiden name or your mother's maiden name.
3. At the end of your blog post, tag one person (or blogger of another species) for each letter of your middle name. Be sure to leave them a comment telling them they've been tagged. As I said before, consider yourself tagged...

  1. "J" is for jolly. I am (almost) always in a good mood, and I kind of look like Santa...
  2. "O" is for outgoing. I am definitely not shy. How can you be after having sung at church while wearing a pink tutu...
  3. "S" is for strong. I am way stronger than I ever thought I would be, and I'm ready for any challenge life has in store for me. As long as I have Gaby and the kids with me, I will say 'bring it on'. I am a rock.
  4. "E" is for educated. I'm a very polite person; I will always say "good morning", "please" and "thank you", even when I don't get any replies. And I will not tell someone that he/she is a complete idiot, even when it's very evident.

Finally, here's one I liked very much after I saw it at Jamie's blog. Feel free to play (and let me know when -if- you do):

You - Can - Only - Type - One - Word - Answers

1. Where is your mobile phone? USB
2. Your significant other?

11. Your ex? Haven't
12. Your fear? Death
13. Where do you want to be in 6 years? Home
14. Where were you last night? Here
15. What you're not? Thin
16. Muffins? Banana
17. One of your wish list items? Blackberry
18. Where you grew up? Necochea
19. The last thing you did? Superhero
20. What are you wearing? Short
21. Your TV? On
22. Your pets? None
23. Your computer? Partner
24. Your life? Good
25. Your mood? Sad
26. Missing someone? Family
27. Your car? Gaby's
28. Something you're not wearing? Shirt
29. Favourite Store? Fuddruckers :-)
30. Your summer? Soccer
31. Like someone? Yes
32. Your favourite colour? Purple
33. When is the last time you laughed? Tonight
34. When is the last time you cried? Years
35. Who will re-post this? Somebody?

Finally, a moment of self - indulgence: Michelle Johnson from Poetifi has presented me with the "Nice Matters" award.
Can't believe that somebody who writes so well could think this blog is worth nominating. I'm humbled.

Since the "Nice Matters" award was originally intended to be for women, I will assume she's giving it to Florencia, because Michelle loved her singing!

Thank you very much!

OK, now I'm famous...

Canada...and that's because now I've been featured in my hometown's news! DiarioNecochea.com, a news portal from Necochea, has published a note about me having won the Canadian Blog Awards today. They also included an e-mail I sent them telling a little more about the award (and my blog).

A very nice gesture, but I think maybe a little exaggerated. Yes, I did win an Canadian award and another from the US. But the headline says something like "One of our readers wins awards with his blog all around the world".

What about Saturn?! :-)

Thank you very much, DiarioNecochea. As I said, I might not agree with their editorial line most of the times, but I still read the portal every day, and I thank them for the mention.

If there's one thing you can say about me, it is that I'm a grateful person.
