Silly Monkey Stories #28 – Bicycles and trumpets

Canada
My kids had this idea of me being the ‘knower of all things’ and they’re constantly asking me questions about pretty much anything. Santiago is particularly good at that, and has been doing this since age 3. I can’t be at ease for about five minutes without being asked:

- Dad, what’s the capital of Ghana?
- Dad, who won the 1954 World Cup?
- Dad, how many CDs has AC/DC recorded?
- Dad, how many provinces does Argentina have?
- Dad, who’s the MPP for our electoral district?

Sometimes, I do have the answer (especially if it’s about soccer), but most of the times I end saying “Why don’t you guys just look it up? We have plenty of books and encyclopaedias, plus Google”, and away they go. I’m starting to believe this is all a plot so I actually tell them to go on the computer…

Things were slightly different on Saturday. It was Carolina interrogating me this time, and it looked like she had something in mind. However, I didn’t answer until about 10 seconds after she formulated her first question, and that gave the other ones their chance to chip in, with hilarious results:

03/Jan/2009 – Carolina (11), Santi (13) and Gaby (er… 28?) :-)

Caro: – Dad, who was the first man to walk on the moon?
Me: – …
Gaby: – Louis Armstrong… no, I mean…
Santi (interrupting): – It’s Lance Armstrong
Me (finally, and almost in unison with Gaby): – Neil Armstrong

Caro asked once again, while everybody else was already laughing:
- And who was the second man to walk on the moon?
- Buzz Aldrin
- And the third?
- Michael… er, no, I think he actually didn’t land on the moon. I don’t remember…

I was right, and it was indeed Michael Collins who flew in the Apollo 11 but never landed.  I still didn’t know who was Moonwalker #3, and it turned out to be Pete Conrad

But we were still laughing, so I never found what Carolina’s intention really was. The idea of Neil Armstrong riding a bike on the Moon, while singing “What a wonderful world” or “Hello Dolly” just kills me…

Argentina

03/Ene/2009 – Carolina (11), Santi (13) and Gaby (eh… 28?) :-)

Yo: – …
Gaby: – Louis Armstrong… no, quiero decir…
Santi (interrumpiendola): – Es Lance Armstrong.

No me acuerdo…

  4. That is just too funny! You should ask her what her original intentions were and then tell us next week. I'm dying of curiosity!!!
