Back at home

(En español más abajo)

CanadaI will be at work in less than an hour, and it’s been so long since I left (four weeks ago tomorrow!) that I’m not 100% sure of what I’m going to find when I get there. Coming back from a long trip and trying to adjust back to my ‘Life in Waterloo’ routine has always been difficult, and I don’t expect this to be the exception. It’s probably going to be even more complicated this time, after having been back at home.

On a different note, today is the last day we Canadians have to file our taxes. Since I just came back three days ago, I had to spent the entire Sunday working on my tax return, sometimes by myself, sometimes with Gaby, sometimes asking for help from above. This is definitely the last time I’m doing this by myself; next year I’m going to pay someone just to avoid the headache. When we first bought our house, we borrowed some money from my RRSP (my retirement fund), taking advantage of something called Home Buyers’ Plan (or HBP) that allows us to do so, giving us 15 (fifteen!) years to pay the money back. This HBP thing has proven to be the most difficult part of my tax returns year after year, and was definitely what I had to spent the most time working on yesterday. But well, I got it right eventually… or so I hope!

What else is going on today? Oh, yes, the Federal Election. The Conservatives (incumbent) should win today, but that won’t be the story. Instead, the incredible surge that the New Democratic Party has experienced over the last month or so will surely be the news of the day. Jack Layton and his party –of all people– can now take the credit on having decimated the once powerful Bloc Québécois (its own leader has called to support the NDP), and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if our next Prime Minister is this skinny, bald fellow with the perennial smile. The Liberals, once powerful, continue to sink under the leadership of someone (Michael Ignatieff) who makes a lot of people scratch their heads and ask ourselves: “Is this really the best candidate they had?. The Bloc, as mentioned before, and the Green Party (who are still like five people, in spite of so many cool and concerned people showing their support) are now absolutely irrelevant and I don’t expect any news coming from them at the end of the day. I voted NDP the last time, so you can guess where my vote is going this time.

Me and Gaby are voting tonight. It’s a right we earned, and we’re very proud of it. I love exercising my right to vote, it makes me feel part of this society that has welcomed us with open arms; it is also my way to give back, by taking an interest in what’s going on here and making sure my voice is heard. Like I always say, if you don’t care to vote, then you don’t have the right to complain about the government. Smile

The other big news of the day is of course the death of Osama Bin Laden. What an irony that it happened exactly 8 years to the date in which former President Bush said “Mission accomplished!”. Nobody wanted the location of his body to be known, as to prevent him from becoming a martyr, so he has conveniently been buried at sea (what a good chance to see if s**t floats!). People are saying that there’s no much difference between the people who gathered in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. to celebrate the 9/11 attacks and those who spontaneously gathered outside of the White House last night to cheer and celebrate Bin Laden’s death. I do find a big difference: 10 years ago, people were celebrating the death of 3,500+ civilians; last night, people celebrated the death of the monster who was behind those deaths. We can agree upon the fact that there aren’t too many differences between Al Qaeda and US and its allies in terms of brutality and disregard for those countries, their people and their rights, but one thing is sure: I’m happy Bin Laden is death. Rot in hell, bitch.

Still, after so many years of the US Government having played cat and mouse with their former ally, I guess people will want proof that he’s finally gone, so I won’t be surprised if some gruesome pictures of his body are conveniently ‘leaked’ to the media. This will without a doubt be a big boost for Obama’s lackluster government. Like I said on Twitter last night, “Barack Obama is announcing his intentions to run for re-election in three… two… one…”.

I talked about my life, my work, the Federal Election, Osama Bin Laden and Obama's presidency all in about five or six paragraphs. That is why some call this blog 'eclectic'. Some also mention words like 'incoherent babbling', but I like 'eclectic' much, much better.

Note: As I was writing this post, the radio started to play Tears for Fears’ “Everybody wants to rule the world”. I felt it was very appropriate!

  2. Anyone and every one should own at least whole LED flashlight. More than in unison, even. You assuredly need story in every household in crate of a blackout. How would you be navigating your character almost the power fight or unbroken in sight of the contain to discover discernible if it's reasonable your house front this conclusion or if your neighbors are in the predicament too? I acquire a confederate who methodical keeps a particular LED flashlight per range in the house. That includes the bedrooms, living latitude, kitchen, storeroom, and stable the bathrooms! I believe she has dialect mayhap 10 of such an LED flashlight. Another superior throw away victim of an LED flashlight is while you're traveling. You should again complete an LED flashlight with you in case your tourist house or wherever you are encounters a blackout. As well, shining the bright LED flashlight will be able to pick up people's concentration to come to your rescue, wherever you are (unless you're under d, at which your LED flashlight unquestionably won't be functioning).

So why an LED flashlight and not a given of those run-of-the-mill torchlights? Famously, just like how the see trade lights these days don't be appropriate flawed as much as in the last, so drive the lifespan of your LED flashlight. It is known to last you spirit longer than the flashlights of the past.

I bought the UltraFire WF-502B SSC-P7-CSXO 3-Mode 900-Lumen Respect LED Flashlight with Clip (1*18650/1*17670) from the Ultrafire Lights division on DealtoWorld.com, where I regularly do some online shopping. DealtoWorld.com carries assorted gadgets and tools that produce ordinary resilience much easier. It unfaltering beats going for everyone the marts and honest discovering things at occasionally and buying them scarcely on impulse. At least while I'm doing online shopping at DealtoWorld.com, I can forthwith research on the outcome and the power of it, and even read reviews of it preceding I earn that buy decision. It sure makes me sensible of like I'm shopping way smarter than up front! Stable my conceal is lucky after me that I don't barely shop in search clothes, but be informed how to accept such useful tools mistaken the internet! It's temperament more convenient, and you don't should prefer to to be super savvy to recognize how to do it. After buying this LED flashlight, I even bought some birthday gifts an eye to friends. The gifts are mostly hard-headed things that they can press into service, and I also bought another LED flashlight for the treatment of my mother who suppress uses candles during a power outage.

The LED flashlight I bought from DealtoWorld.com allows me to choose from three modes. There's anticyclone, frail, and strobe. Squiffed is for the purpose when I beggary wealth of taper, like during a blackout, exchange for instance. Switching it to insufficient enables me to secure batteries or when I don't call too much light-bulb, like when I trouble to see the gas meter, for instance. Strobe is in place of when I desideratum some rescuer's heed or to disorient an interloper or wild animal.

Right-minded mould month I was stuck in a jammed elevator and pal was I thrilled to beget my trusty LED flashlight with me so I didn't sense so scared. As you can comprehend from the pictures, the LED flashlight produces a somewhat undiluted lambaste, to light up the field when you most for it.
