3D

I remember when 3D movies were all the hype, but they looked decidedly horrible. You would get those cardboard glasses with one eye blue and the other one red; sure, you could see some 3D stuff, but everything was mostly... a bluish red blur.

But how have things changed nowadays! I've been to the movies a few times lately, mostly to see family flicks along with Gaby and the kids. OK, scratch 'mostly' and replace it with 'exclusively'. Some -most- of these movies were in 3D (“Up”, “Ice Age 3” or “Cloudy with a chance of meatballs”), and all I can say after having watched them is... Wow.

The technology has improved dramatically, and those red 'n' blue glasses are no longer required. You get some other glasses instead, and those don't seem to have more than a greyish tint. You get to pay $3.00 more per person for 'technology fees' (what a rip-off!), but the experience is amazing.

Though all of these movies were quite good besides the 3D effect, the last one (“Cloudy...”), based on a book from 1978,  was simply hilarious. I haven't laughed so hard in years!! In fact, I only remember two movies that made me laugh to the point of having a stomach ache: Naked gun and Shrek 2. There were very few people watching last night, so I could hear Florencia's laughter very clear from the other side of our row. I think I enjoyed that as much as I enjoyed the movie.

The first thing the kids said once we got out was "We’ve got to watch it again!", and I agree. What better compliment can you pay to a movie?

Go watch “Cloudy with a chance of meatballs” and laugh yourself silly. And they say there are no more original stories to tell!

 

Recuerdo cuando las películas en 3D estaban tan de moda, a pesar de que eran un espanto visual. Tenías que ponerte esos anteojos de cartón con un ojo rojo y otro azul; sí, claro, uno veía algo que parecía 3D, pero la en general sólo era… un manchón rojo azulado.

Pero cómo han cambiado las cosas hoy! Hemos ido al cine unas cuantas veces últimamente, por lo general para ver películas familiares con Gaby y los chicos. OK, reemplacemos 'por lo general’ con 'exclusivamente'. Algunas –la mayoría- de estas películas eran en 3D (“Up”, “Ice Age 3” o “Lluvia de hamburguesas”), todo lo que puedo decir después de haberlas visto es… guau.

Las mejoras tecnológicas son notables, y esos adefesios rojos y azules ya no son necesarios. Uno se tiene que poner otros anteojos, pero que no parecen tene más que un pequeño filtro grisáceo. Eso sí, uno tiene que pagar $3.00 más por persona en concepto de ‘gastos de tecnología’ (qué robo!), pero la experiencia es increíble.

Si bien todas estas películas resultaron ser buenas por mérito propio, más allá del 3D, la última (“Lluvia…”), basada en un cuento que fue publicado en 1978, fue realmente divertidísima. No recuerdo haberme reído tanto en años!! De hecho, sólo recuerdo dos películas aparte de ésta que me han hecho reir tanto que mi estómago dolió: La pistola desnuda y Shrek 2. Había poca gente en el cine el martes por la noche, así que podía oír las carcajadas de Florcita muy claramente desde la otra punta de la fila. Creo que disfruté tanto de eso como de la película.

Lo primero que dijeron los chicos al salir fue “Tenemos que verla de nuevo!”, y yo estuve de acuerdo. No es el mejor elogio que se le puede hacer a una película?

Vayan a ver “Lluvia de hamburguesas” y ríanse sin parar. Es una buena lección para los que dicen que ya no quedan historias originales y divertidas para llevar a la pantalla!
