Alone with the kids - Days 05 and 06

CanadaI will start my recap by breaking everybody's hearts. If you remember well, I have talked about Florencia and how much she likes to sing. I have even put some videos of her singing, like this one, this one and this one. Oh, and this one. Well, two nights ago I was just getting out of the shower and I heard Florencia sing (it was bedtime, so I assumed she had sneaked into my room again).

I listened to her carefully while I was brushing my teeth in absolute silence, trying to figure out what she was singing about this time (you see, Florencia sings about facts of life, this meaning whatever is crossing her mind at that particular moment; I guess I could say she's a rapper!). I couldn't make out the 'lyrics' at first, but then I realized that she was singing about me! Proud father here...

Suddenly, she started to sing about her mother. And here is where the comically sad part came: still singing, she started to say that she missed her Mommy very much; her voice started to shake a little and soon enough she broke into tears. BUT SHE KEPT ON SINGING! I couldn't believe my ears. A few seconds later, she got off my bed and came to knock on the washroom door:

- Daddy...
- Yes?
- I miss Mommy very much! (and she resumed her crying)

She's a 4 year old girl, so it only took me about 2 minutes of making a fool of myself to get her to laugh again. But that was such a funny -and sad- moment!

Going back to our lives here, the kids got up really late yesterday, and even later today. I guess Santi was once again the first to jump out of bed at the early time of... 10:45 AM. Juan followed at around noon, and then the girls. The reason? We went to the drive-in theatre last night! We got to watch "The Dark Knight" and "Get Smart" for the incredible price of $15! And the kids loved it.

Flor fell asleep half way through the first movie ("The Dark Knight")

The show started at 9:10 PM, and we got back home way past 2:00 AM, which explains why everybody is getting up so late. As I said, it helps me work better during the morning, because I don't have to worry with things like "Did they have breakfast?", "Are they taking care of Flor?" or "Will they ever stop watching TV and go outside?".

We had soccer today. First we went to my team's practice from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM and then I took Caro to her practice from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. I dropped all the other three guys home on my way to Caro's practice because guess what... it was raining! I'm so sick of this rain that won't let me do anything remotely 'outdoorsy'...

After the soccer thing, a quick dinner (this time they did have pizza, but I haven't eaten yet) and now they're all watching TV. I will make sure they stay up late...

Oh, they did talk to their mom both on the phone and via MSN (with camera and everything). I had to inform her that they didn't do a really good job in terms of helping around the house. We'll see tomorrow...

Tomorrow's chores:
  • Florencia: Dishwasher and clean up the basement
  • Carolina: Clean up dining room, take out recycling and make breakfasts
  • Juan: Take out the garbage
  • Santi: Vacuum, clean up the front door area, pick up the mail and set the tables

I just had to interrupt my post due to two girls shrieking and running like crazy. A 'huge' spider was threatening their lives downstairs and I had to go and take care of it. Good to know I'm still needed...

- Papi...
- Si?
- La extraño mucho a Mami! (y comenzó a llorar nuevamente)

Vimos "The Dark Knight" y "Get Smart" por unos increíbles $15! Y a los chicos les encantó!

Just before the movies started

  • Florencia: Lava vajillas y ordenar basement
  • Carolina: Ordenar comedor, sacar recycling y preparar desayunos
  • Juan: Sacar basura
