Manic Monday #03

can_flaggy

Is there anything too serious to joke about? If so, what falls into that category for you?
Ten years ago, when I was younger (and prettier), I would've said "No". But now I've matured (not much, though) and I find a lot of topics I would not joke about, like illnesses, catastrophes, gender, races, etc, etc. But that's because I would never feel comfortable telling those jokes. Then I see shows like "Family Guy" or "American Dad" pushing all the limits, and 99.99999% of the times I just die of laughter...

Would you rather be a tortured genius or a happy simple-minded person? Why?
I guess I'd rather be a simple-minded person. I've been labelled as a 'tortured genius' before and it's not fun. I will not sound modest, but I know I have an intelligence that it's a little above average; I've taken IQ tests and stuff like that but I have never believed the results because I have always been good in Logic. I know I am an extremely fast learner, and I have a memory that everybody I know envies. That has caused me to be lazy sometimes, as I know that I can get 'there' making a minimal effort. I see that happening to my son too, and it's not fun.

A dear friend or family member has a terminal illness and is in agony. He/she wants you to help him/her die. What would you do?
I would definitely help him/her die, no doubts about it. To me, it's about living -and dying- with dignity. Many people who consider pets part of their family will take them to the vet to 'put them to sleep' in order to end their agony, but they would never even consider doing that to a person they love; I know there are legal implications, of course, but it still puzzles me.

I've had people that were very close to me (like both my father and Gaby's) go through tremendous agonies and I just couldn't stand it. I would never question the decision of ending their lives, either by their own hand or through assisted suicide; as a friend of mine said once, they would be exercising their right to say "I've had enough".

I get mad when I hear people say that people who kill themselves are "cowards". They can be sick, depressed, desperate, call it what you want. But you have to be brave to make a decision like that. I know I would never have the... guts.

  4. Thanks for your comments, Yen and Milet.

You both said that I've shared or explained my answers well, yet I still feel there's so much more I could have said... but I can't.

  5. Hello Gabriel,

I enjoyed reading your answers as well. I guess the topics this week does lend itself for long discussions because of their sensitive nature and depending on our maturity or experience in life, we all have different viewpoints for the questions mentioned. Certainly if those questions were posted earlier in my life, I would have answered differently than what I did now.

    Have a nice day. :D

  6. I completely agree with your last one!

The second, I disagree, just because I am a tortured genius, but at the same time I understand there is a reason for everything. And it sure helps my creativity!

    Mine is here. Happy MM!

  7. Thanks for stopping by my Manic Monday. Definitely I agree with Q3, when you’ve experienced something like that, even praying for their life to end early is considered something good to hope for. It’s terrible really, watching someone suffer like that.
