Only in Argentina?

They had presidential elections in Argentina yesterday, and the interesting note is that the two biggest candidates (which ended coming in first and second) were women. Cristina Fernández beat Elisa Carrió by about 20% of the votes (ballots are still being processed).

Besides the obvious fact that two women got over two thirds of the votes, there is another interesting story: Cristina Fernández is Néstor Kirchner's wife, so she's Argentina's First Lady right now. She's quite an interesting woman too, you can see below...

Hence my question: There is a new president, the second female president in the history of Argentina; she beat another woman in the elections, and she's the wife of the current president. Does this qualify as an "Only in Argentina" moment?

Voting in Argentina is mandatory, so is to act as a president or fiscal during Election Day, if you're requested to. I read stories of somebody who refused to do it, and actually chose going to jail over sitting there for ten hours. And then, of course, I saw pictures like this....

Shhh... He slept for over 45 minutes, apparently...

Oh, there's another thing: Daniel Scioli, who currently serves as vicepresident, won as well and will become the governor of the Province of Buenos Aires, the biggest electoral district in Argentina. Another woman, Margarita Stolbizer, came in second here as well.

So either all of these guys are very versatile, or there aren't any other candidates available...

  4. The President is a woman too in Chile, no? Latin America is quite progressive these days.

Politics in Argentina looks complicated and unique... like in France!
