A very expensive pop

It was almost 1AM and I’m at a hospital in Toronto, supporting a software upgrade (elegant way to say I’m not doing anything). I worked almost all day in Ottawa today, and then drove 5 hours to get here, so I had lunch at about 4PM and then… no dinner.

 

Since I cannot screw up with my meals so much because of the medication I take, I went upstairs to see if I could get me something to eat. I found a couple of vending machines in the ground floor, and I assumed that the coffee shop in the 1st floor would be already close. The vending machine that had candy (my biggest concern was having low blood sugar) only accepted coins, and I had none. Luckily, the vending machine right next to it (Coke machine) did, so I promptly inserted my $5 bill, not planning on buying anything but on pressing the change button, so I would get 2 toonies and a loonie.

 

But the machine refused to give me the change back, so I reluctantly had to press the button and buy a Coke Zero. To my surprise, I received exactly $0.25 as change. Yup, I paid $4.75 for a bottle of Coke Zero! To make things even worse, after shaking and kicking the machine I went downstairs and found that the coffee store was opened. They also had Coke Zero… and it was cheaper than the vending machine. >:(

 

 

Era casi la 1AM y estoy en un hospital en Toronto, apoyando un upgrade de software (manera elegante de decir no estoy haciendo un joraca). Trabajé casi todo el día en Ottawa, y luego manejé cinco horas para llegar aquí, lo que significó que almorzara a las 4PM… y no cenara.

 

Como no puedo hacer desarreglos con mis comidas por la medicación que tomo, me fui arriba para ver si podía encontrar algo para comer. Encontré un par de máquinas expendedoras en el subsuelo, y asumí que la cafetería del primer piso estaría cerrada. La máquina que vendía caramelos (mi principal preocupación era que mi azúcar no estuviera muy baja) sólo aceptaba monedas, y yo no tenía. Por suerte la máquina de al lado (una de Coca Cola) sí aceptaba billetes, así que le puse mi ‘Willy’ ($5) sin planear comprar nada, sino que apretar el botón de ‘Cambio’ y así obtener 2 toonies y un loonie.

 

Pero la máquina se rehusó a darme el cambio, así que no me quedó otra que apretar un botón y comprar una Coca Zero. Para mi sorpresa, recibí como cambio $0.25. Sí, pagué $4.75 por una botellita de Coca Zero! Para peor, luego de sacudir y patear la máquina podrida esa, subí las escaleras y me encontré con que la cafetería estaba abierta. También tenían Coca Zero en botellitas… y eran más baratas que en la máquina expendedora, la rpqlp! >:(
