Things that only happen to me

USA

I'm in Greenville, SC for the week (I'm leaving tonight, actually). I have had a very busy but very productive week, something that always makes me happy (and causes me not to have too much time to do other things, like blogging!).

My routine is the typical of weeks like these: I come to the office in the morning, normally work non-stop until around 6:30, 7:00 PM and then I go straight to the hotel. Sometimes I find a place to eat on my way back, sometimes I order food from my room. I didn't do either of the two things last night.

I left early because there was a soccer game I wanted to catch (online). My plan was simple: I get back to the hotel at 6:00 PM, put the laptop in the washroom and watch the game while in the bathtub. But I got somehow distracted with more work stuff, so I ended watching it while seating at the desk. I kept working after the game ended, and then I spoke on Skype with Gaby. In summary, it was almost 10:00 PM by the time I was ready to go out and get me some food.

Normally, I would just stay in the hotel, or go across the street and buy something at the McDonald's nearby. But not this time. In spite of the cold weather, I grabbed the keys and drove out, looking for a place where I could have some 'real' food at 10:30 PM.

I found an Applebee's in Anderson, SC, and it turned out to be karaoke night...

I don't know why I do these things. I sang Cat Stevens' "Father & Son" and Bee Gee's "How deep is your love" to absolutely no reaction from the 'crowd'. The two guys running the karaoke show and two patrons congratulated me afterwards, and the waiter didn't charge me for the coffee, but that was it. What I could not understand is why I was nervous!! It's not like I was performing at a concert or something...

But the story here is that only I can go out on a Thursday night and end singing in the middle of nowhere...
