Going to Ireland – Vale’s story (Part 3)

(En español más abajo)

USA(Continues from here)

What can I say about Ireland? When I first arrived and walked out of the airport, I realized how terrible the country’s weather really is. I could still feel the cold through my four layers of clothes; the wind was so strong it could almost throw me to the ground. The clouds covered the sky with a dark, sad colour. Here, the clouds always seem to be very low to the ground, as if one could simply stretch their arms out and touch them.

After only ten minutes of this, however, the weather changed completely. There was not a cloud in the sky and the sun was out, shining on all the green that extended for miles in every direction. The Irish say that one can have all four seasons in one day, that if one doesn’t like the weather, it’s only a matter of waiting a few minutes.

I learned this the hard way. In the morning, I would look out the window in my room, and I would see it was warm and sunny. I would put on summer clothes and would go out to enjoy the day. Half an hour later, we would be in the middle of a torrential rain! As always, I would be running to make it to my classes (in downtown Dublin) on time, and I would of course get there completely soaked, as if I had been swimming in the Liffey River, the channel that divides the city. This is why I learned never to go out without an umbrella in my bag. That’s Ireland for you!

And what about the Irish? Are they just a bunch of beer-drinking, whisky-downing drunks, as the stereotype tells us? Is it true that everyone has sheep in Ireland? What do they think of Argentina and the USA?

That’s part of my next story!
