Happy New Year

It's 1:18PM and all of my kids are still asleep. Or maybe not, I think Santi was probably playing with his Gameboy while still in bed...

We had the Zieglers coming over for New Year's Eve and we had a great time together. And we eat. Boy did we eat! As per my suggestion, we had cheese fondue for dinner... Gaby and her mom prepared all the little things that went into the pot, like ham cubes, salami, bread crumbs, little meatballs, vegetables, etc. Of all that , only some broccoli was left at the end of the night. It was getting dangerous to try to stick your hand in there...

Just when we thought it had been enough food for the evening, the dessert arrived. And it was... chocolate fondue! Once again, Gaby and my mother-in-law had taken care of all the little things you would love to dip in there. The funny note was that the one we bought as an afterthought was the most successful of the evening: Rice Krispies squares. We bought a big box containing 24 of them, and only three are left.

We stepped aside for a minute and let the kids eat first (OK, maybe only I did...) and then it was our turn to attack. I'm not a chocolate fan, so I probably had two Rice Krispies squares and a banana and that was it... But we noticed that the chocolate was disappearing before our very eyes, so I made a wild suggestion: "Gaby, do we have white chocolate?". Of course she did!!! And that one I did eat; man, it was great...

We had a few coffees and then waited for the 12:00 AM call so we could toast for a great 2008. In pure Argentine tradition, we all said: "Finally, this sh*tty year is over!" before we raised our glasses.

After that, we only had some room for an ice cream and that was it. The Zieglers left at around 2:00 AM, I think, and I stayed up just a little longer... until around 5:00 AM. When I woke up, I saw this...

I better go get the kids up, they will definitely want to play in the snow. Happy New Year everybody!

Tulip, good luck with your fondue on Three Kings Day!

Deannascrap, thanks and happy New Year to you too!

  19. Shannon, yes, white chocolate is definitely my favourite. As I said, I didn't care too much about 'the other' chocolate, but I could not resist this one...
