As we were saying yesterday…

(En español más abajo)

CanadaI feel like I haven't blogged in a long time, and that's because... it's exactly what has happened. It's not like I ran out of ideas or that I don't have anything to say. I have been really busy with other things, so I put my blog in the back burner for a while.

A lot has happened in the last few months, and I will try to talk about it if only briefly: For example, my wife finally took the plunge and started her own business, called KW Empanadas, and we are very happy so far, as it’s growing steadily. We had a great open house last spring, with lots of friends and even some local politicians showing up. Like I said, sales have been good so far and we are excited about the future. You can see some of the delicious food she makes in the pictures above, and if you live in the KW area, I recommend you give her and her company a shot!

My health continues to improve. I feel better and better and even though I have since stopped losing weight (in fact, I went up a few pounds), I am now able to live a very active life. I have been walking, running, biking, going to the gym, playing soccer… a lot of physical activity and the best part of it, I can do it. I don’t get tired and I’m not sore the following day. There was a Sunday afternoon in October that I decided to go for a bike ride; I thought I would do the normal 7, 8 km, coming back after 45 minutes or so. Instead, I ended riding my bycicle for a good two hours, for a total that was just shy of 20 km (a little over 12 miles). It felt just great.

The kids are all doing well. Santi is about to graduate from university, so he is preparing his return. He made the USCAA All American academic team in 2016, after a great soccer season, and has been in the Dean’s list several times. There is a good chance he will graduate magna cum laude, which is also a great thing! Carolina switched from psychology to the food and hospitality industry and I think it was a great decision. She just completed a bartending course with very good grades and is currently looking for a job in that area. She is also analyzing what to do next fall, study-wise.

Juan is also in college, currently on his second term of the marketing career. He might switch in the fall as well. He is interested in the social outreach area, and I believe it would be a great idea for him as well, even though he seemed to like marketing a lot. Florencia is in the last year of Primary school, and she is very happy because she got accepted into the International Baccalaureate program at Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute (the same program that Santi and Caro did). She just can’t wait to start, and to make things even better, her best friend Alejandro (they’re more like siblings, they’ve known each other since Flor was born!) goes to CHCI as well. On top of that, she auditioned for the KW Glee group and made it to their youth Pop Choir, so she’s really excited.

In addition to Santi, Carolina and Juan also played university sports last fall (Caro played soccer and Juan rugby, both for Conestoga College). Unfortunately, my daughter didn’t play much in her first year, but she had a very good season for my Waterloo team. Juan did play a lot, and his team made it to the final four. He suffered a concussion though, so it was a bumpy ride for him… literally.

Florencia also played soccer for Waterloo, having finally made the Rep team after having been cut three years in a row. She had a great season with the C team, and she is now part of the B squad, along with me. I guess we were both promoted! Smile

I’m still enjoying my current position at work, and I had my 15th anniversary with the company last November. I couldn’t be happier to work for AGFA, and I hope I stay for many more years. I am travelling a little more these days, but it’s nothing too big, I can still manage. The kids are bigger now, so it’s different; I still feel guilty, but not that much… And who knows, maybe Gaby or some of the kids will be able to come along in the future, and just drive around and/or shop while I work.

I finally turned 50 last month and I had a great birthday party, organized by my beautiful wife. I will talk about it later, but I will say this for now: it was one of the happiest days of my life. So far!

Me sentí genial.
