The 'real' New Year's day

I see the Tuesday after Labour Day as the 'real' New Year. At least, that is how it works for us. The kids started school again, and for us this means is time to get ready for the winter season. This includes:

* Registering the kids to minor sports (soccer, swimming, etc)
* Gaby starts teaching again (three courses this fall, hopefully)
* I start singing again (yikes! I have rehearsal tomorrow)
* All major projects at work will kick off (including our yearly cubicle move)
* All TV shows we watch either have new seasons or disappear into oblivion
* NBA, NHL, OHL...
* European Soccer leagues have just started their season.
* Argentina has kicked off its 'Apertura' (Opening) tournament, even though it's the last of the year... :-)

Finally, we look forward to some things that I really like:
* Oktoberfest Parade (and free breakfast!)
* Thanksgiving weekend (and its corresponding Parades)
* Christmas season
* Snow! (it sucks sometimes, but my kids love it, so I do too)
* Cold weather! (yay)
* Going out more frequently, mostly visiting friends at their places (or hosting them). Of course, leaving the shoes at the door :-)

So... Happy New Year, everybody. I hope you the best for 2007/08.

  1. I kind of think of September as the new year, too. You're right, when you have kids, it's all about the 1st day of school.
    I love Christmas, but I am not too big on Oktoberfest. I live right downtown, and last year was a nightmare with the drunken revelers...And snow? Snow thank you!

  2. Thank you for your comments, Biddie. Always nice to hear from bloggers in KW. I bet you know many more, but you're just the second I know of.

    I took a look at your blog, and I liked it very much. I will comment there soon!

  3. Actually, you are the 1st blogger that I have found from KW. I have blog buddies from all over Ontario, but you are the one and only from this area.
