The slow cooker

(En español más abajo)

CanadaGaby has been taking great care of me since my surgery, and spends a lot of time in the kitchen, making all kinds of foods that she not only knows I'm good to eat, but also that they are healthy and for some reason I will like them. But she is also very busy with work, so she is very tired these days. I'm trying to get the kids to help out a little, and of course I am willing to pitch in as well, but with relative success. Sometimes, however, funny situations arise due to Gaby's and my kids' absent-mindness.

My wife was preparing me a lentil and chicken breast stew in the slow cooker yesterday. She got up at 6:20 AM like every day and set up everything so I would have enough food for the day. At the same time, she would cook the kids' meals so they could take them to school. You really have to value her cooking fish at 6:30 AM, when she actually hates seafood...

But as I was saying, she was making me this stew in the slow cooker, which she would serve me for dinner last night. I left way before she did, so only when I came back from work I noticed that she had never turned the slow cooker on! Puzzled, I just plugged it in and set it to 'low', knowing that there was no way I was going to have lentils for dinner. Carolina came back from school soon after, so I told her about it and we both shared a laugh. She then went back to the kitchen to make herself a sandwich...

Gaby got back home about an hour and a half later, and I immediately told her about the slow cooker. She laughed and told me she had been wondering about that all day! She then went to the kitchen and asked me:

- Well, why didn't you plug it in?
- What do you mean? I did!
- Well, it's still unplugged and dead cold...
- How can that be possib... Carolina!! Did you unplug the slow cooker?
- Oh, hahaha!! I guess I did, when I plugged in the panini maker!
- Oh, I give up...

I just had the stew for lunch today. It was delicious. And not undercooked at all.

- Ah, bueno, me rindo...

Acabo de comerme el guisito como almuerzo. Estaba buenísimo. Y bien cocido.
