Look at the image below, it's from one of the local newspapers, the 'Kitchener Citizen'. You will see that there's an ad about 'Kitchen 1/2 Day workshops'... can you guess who's teaching those? My dear wife, of course!

The first one, which took place last weekend, was a success. She didn't bring any bread back home, but I'm still willing to forgive her because... today is the 20th anniversary since we started dating! :-) I had to mention that so all of you -and Gaby- know that I remember...

Going back to the main topic, she prepared two different kinds of bread: one was an oregano and cheese flavoured bread, and the other one a red pepper bread. You want the recipes? I thought so! :-)

ArgentinaMiren la imagen de aquí arriba, es de uno de los diarios locales, el 'Kitchener Citizen'. Verán un aviso sobre unos 'Workshops de 1/2 día en la cocina'... adivinen quién los está dictando? Mi esposa, por supu!

El primero de ellos, que se llevó a cabo el fin de semana pasado, fue un éxito. No me trajo ningún pancito de regalo, pero la perdono igual porque... hoy hace 20 años desde que nos pusimos de novios! :-) Quería mencionar eso para que todos ustedes -y Gaby- sepan que me acuerdo...

Volviendo al asunto, la niña preparó dos diferentes clases de panes: uno con orégano y queso y el otro con pimientos (morrones, les decimos nosotros) rojos. Quieren las recetas? Ya me parecía!

 
 
 
Red Pepper Bread
Ingredients
  • Flour,5 cups (600 g)
  • Salt, ½ tablespoon (10 g)
  • Sugar, 1 tablespoon (20 g)
  • Butter, 100 g (or margarine)
  • Red pepper large seedless, 1
  • Egg, 1
  • Milk, ¾ cup (warm) (180 cc)
  • Dry yeast, 40 g (1 ¼ tablespoon)
Preparation
  • In a bowl, mix the flour with the salt and sugar.
  • Add the butter with your hands and put aside.
  • Clean the red pepper, cut it in pieces and put it on a blender.
  • Add the milk, the egg and the dry yeast as you blend.
  • Put the pepper, milk, etc in the middle of the bowl and start to mix along with the flour, salt, sugar and butter. Continue until the dough is soft.
  • Knead the dough until it's smooth, well mixed and elastic.
  • Put the dough in a recipient; cover with film and put in a warm place for about 40 minutes.
  • When the dough is ready, place it on the table, press a little and cut it on pieces of 40 g each (approximately).
  • Make a roll with the dough and put on a clean baking tray.
  • Cover with a cloth and let it rest for about 15 to 20 minutes or until you see that dough is growing.
  • Paint them with a beaten egg and place them in the oven at 450ºF for about 15 minutes or until they are golden.
  • Let it cool down.
  • Enjoy! Ideal for filling with chicken, any kind of meat or cold cuts, lettuce and tomatoes.
 
Oregano and cheese bread
Ingredients
  • Flour, 5 cups (600 g)
  • Sugar, ½ cup (100 g)
  • Salt, ½ tablespoon (10 g)
  • Milk, 1 ½ cups (warm) (350 cc)
  • Dry yeast, 20 g (3/4 tablespoon)
  • Egg, 1
  • Butter, 100 g (or margarine)
  • Oregano, 1 tablespoon
  • Parmesan cheese, ½ cup (50 g, shredded)
Preparation
  • In a bowl, mix the flour with the salt and the sugar.
  • Open a hole in the centre.
  • Put the yeast, adding the warm milk gradually and mix until the preparation looks creamy.
  • Let it rest for 20 minutes.
  • Add the egg and the butter (diced) in the centre of the preparation.
  • Start mixing with the flour.
  • The dough must be soft; add more flour if it is necessary.
  • Knead the dough until it's smooth, well mixed and elastic.
  • Put the dough in a recipient, cover it with film and put it in a warm place for about 20 minutes.
  • When the dough is ready, place it on the table, press a little and add the oregano and cheese.

Pan de Pimiento rojo
Ingredientes
  • Harina, 5 tazas (600 g)
  • Sal, ½ cucharada (10 g)
  • Azúcar, 1 cucharada (20 g)
  • Manteca, 100 g (o margarina)
  • Pimiento rojo, grande y sin semillas, 1
  • Huevos, 1
  • Leche, ¾ taza (caliente) (180 cc)
  • Levadura seca, 40 g (1.25 cucharadas)
Preparación
  • En un bol, mezclar la harina con la sal y el azúcar.
  • Agregar la manteca con sus manos y mezclar, luego dejar descansar.
  • Limpiar el pimiento rojo, cortarlo en trozos y poner en la procesadora.
  • Agregar gradualmente la leche, el huevo y la levadura.
  • Poner esta última preparación en el medio del bol y comenzar a mezclar con la harina, sal, azúcar y manteca. Continuar hasta que la masa quede suave.
  • Amasar hasta que tenga una consistencia suave y elástica.
  • Poner la masa en un recipiente; cubrir con film y dejar en un lugar templado por unos 40 minutos.
  • Cuando la masa está lista, poner en la mesa, amasar un poco y cortar en trozos de aproximadamente 40 g cada uno.
  • Hacer un bollito con la masa y poner en un fuente para hornear limpia.
  • Cubrir con un repasador y dejar por unos 15 ó 20 minutos para que la masa leve.
  • Pintar con un huevo batido y poner en el horno a 450ºF por unos 15 minutos o hasta que se vean dorados.
  • Dejar enfriar.
  • A comer!!! Son ideales para rellenar con pollo, carne o fiambre, lechuga y tomate.
 
Pan de orégano y queso
Ingredientes
  • Harina, 5 tazas (600 g)
  • Azúcar, ½ taza (100 g)
  • Sal, ½ cucharada (10 g)
  • Leche, 1 ½ tazas (caliente) (350 cc)
  • Levadura, 20 g (3/4 cucharadas)
  • Huevos, 1
  • Manteca, 100 g (o margarina)
  • Orégano, 1 cucharada
  • Queso parmesano, ½ taza (50 g, rallado)
Preparación
  • En un bol, mezclar la harina con la sal y el azúcar.
  • Hacer un agujero en el centro.
  • Poner la levadura, agregando la leche gradualmente y mezclando hasta que la preparación luce cremosa.
  • Dejar descansar por 20 minutos.
  • Agregar el huevo y la manteca (en cubos) en el centro de la preparación.
  • Mezclar todo bien.
  • La masa debe ser suave; agregar más harina si es necesario.
  • Amasar hasta que tenga una consistencia suave y elástica.
  • Poner la masa en un recipiente; cubrir con film y dejar en un lugar templado por unos 20 minutos.
  • Cuando la masa está lista, poner en la mesa, alisar y agregar el queso y el orégano.
  • Amasar y cortar en trozos de aproximadamente 40 g cada uno.
