Canada14/Feb/2010 – Santi (14)

Santi has always been a very curious kid; it’s something you can expect of somebody with such a bright mind. Since the time when he was a toddler, he has always been asking questions about pretty much everything: Eto que e eto?” (“That what is that?”), he would say all the time. And he’s still like that; and in spite of the abundance of referral sources he has at his disposition (libraries, Wikipedia, etc), he still chooses to ask me every time. At first he would ask me the same question every time, and I have always thought that he would do that in order to check my answer and see if I was lying to him. But now he just asks me anything about anything at any time. Like last night, coming back from skiing…

- Dad, what’s the capital of Ghana? (Dude, ‘capitals of the World’ is my favourite subject!)
- Accra
- OK… (you’re such a nerd, Dad). And what’s the capital of New Zealand?
- Auckland… Are we doing ‘a’ cities only? :-)
- How many electrons are in an atom of Magnesium?
- 52 (I said that knowing that neither him nor me knew the answer anyway, and he bought the lie)

We kept going and going and I always had the right answer (or a very convincing lie), so he ended asking, exasperated:

- OK, what’s Florencias’age plus your age plus my age, divided mommy’s age?
- Santi, how in the world you want me to… It’s 1.4, actually; that was an easy one!

He did his math: (6 + 43 + 14)/45 => 63/45 => 7/5 = 1.4

He was so mad!!!

- What’s the product of the number of grains of sand in the world times the number of stars in the sky minus 3?
- Santi, I think you should give it a rest by now…

I love it when I win. It doesn’t happen too often!

Argentina14/Feb/2010 – Santi (14)

- Accra
- OK… (sos tan nerd, Dad).

Santi hizo cuentas: (6 + 43 + 14)/45 => 63/45 => 7/5 = 1.4

Estaba enfurecido!!!

  8. Karen, I did ask him some questions, but I was intentionally soft ("What is the capital of Canada?") so he immediately realized I had a plan and ignored all further questions...

    The plan was making him look dumb, of course. :-)))
