This year has 51 weeks

CanadaWe’re back at home after a great week in the mountains with Gaby and the kids (more pics coming up). Once we got here, I started to go through e-mails and bills and got quite a list of things to do in the next few days. But it looks like we will have to wait until Jan 4th to get things done.

Many people have taken these days off, as there are only 3, maybe 3.5 working days between Dec/24 and Jan/04. Canada celebrates Boxing Day on Dec/26 (the equivalent to US’ Black Friday, where all the big sales take place). Since it fell on a Saturday this year, they moved the holiday to today. That leaves us only with Tuesday and Wednesday, because most people will work half a day on the 31st. And then we have New Year’s Day on Friday… It doesn’t look like we’re going to find anybody at work until next Monday.

So, in summary:
* Thursday, December 24th – Most people get half a day off
* Friday, December 25th – Holiday
* Monday, December 28th – Holiday (for Boxing Day)
* Tuesday, December 29th – Business as usual
* Wednesday, December 30th – Business as usual
* Thursday, December 31st – Most people get half a day off
* Friday, January 1st – Holiday

That gives me a total of three working days for a period of 11 days beginning on Dec/24 and finishing on Jan/03. Not bad!

Well, unless you work at a mall or at a Tim Hortons. Then you will be busy as hell.

How about you? How are things in your city / country during this time of the year?

Recapitulando:
* Jueves, 24 de Diciembre – Medio día de asueto para muchos
* Viernes, 25 de Diciembre – Feriado
* Lunes, 28 de Diciembre – Feriado (por Boxing Day)
* Martes, 29 de Diciembre – Día hábil
* Miércoles, 30 de Diciembre – Día hábil
* Jueves, 31 de Diciembre – Medio día de asueto para muchos
* Viernes, 1 de Enero – Feriado

  3. My office just closed for two weeks, so it's all good here - paid holidays! We are with the House of Commons and Parliament Hill is quiet at this time of the year.

    I would have working in the service industry around the holidays though, must be crazy.

    Saludos,

    Romi ; )
