K-W Oktoberfest 2008 is coming!

CanadaIn only two days, a new edition (the 40th!) of K-W Oktoberfest kicks off. Soon, the town will be full of beer-drinking, lederhosen-wearing, polka-dancing people, and you know what? It's going to be a lot of fun. This is billed to be the biggest Oktoberfest outside of Germany, with more than 700,000 people participating, though the city of Blumenau, in Brazil is challenging that title now.

Some of you might not know, but we celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada this weekend. Like the Americans, we Canadians give thanks for the things we have at the end of the harvest season, but our celebration comes a month and a half before our neighbours to the South (I couldn't find the reason why, do you know?). This means that next Monday is a holiday, which gave a perfect excuse for the Oktoberfest festival to have its kick-off weekend.

We will start officially this Friday with several events that will include the keg-tapping at the Kitchener City Hall at around noon. After that, we have the free community breakfast on Saturday in Uptown Waterloo, the Thanksgiving / Oktoberfest Parade on Monday, and many events that include Oktoberfest Idol, the "Woman of the Year" award, Rocktoberfest and many, many well irrigated dinners and parties.

We will be there on Saturday morning, having breakfast like we have done since 2001, and we will surely be there on Monday for the Thanksgiving day Parade. We will also make sure that we celebrate Thanksgiving at home, and we might even attend some events, who knows. What about you, are you celebrating Thanksgiving in any special way?

Finally, what most of the people who fall here will be looking for: event info!

Argentina
