Live from Waterloo presents... Carnival of Family Life!

CanadaI'm a social blogger. Every now and then, I will participate of global blogging events, like Bloggers Unite!. I also spend time visiting those who visit me (though I've been too busy lately). There's nothing I like more than good, everyday family life stories. So, when I heard of the Carnival of Family Life, I thought "I've got to do this!"...

And here I am, hosting today's edition!

También me dedico a visitar a aquellos quienes me visitan (aunque he estado ocupado últimamente). Nada me gusta más que las buenas historias familiares de todos los días. Así que cuando oí del Carnival of Family Life, pensé "Yo tengo que hacer esto!..."

  2. Hay tan interesantes blogs para leer, ¡y el tiempo que uno dispone es tan escaso!
    De vez en cuando es bueno que aquellos bloggers que leo recomienden post de blogers amigos. De esta forma uno va directamente a leer el que mas interesa.
    Aqui mencionan tu post "Guilt", pero hay muchos mas que son interesantes en tu blog.

    Me impresionas.
    Eres una de las personas que veo mejor integradas con la comunidad local.
    Tanto en la vida real como en la blogosfera.
    Ser capaz de trascender esa barrera cultural no es sencillo.
    La mayoria seguimos principalmente desenvolviendonos dentro del peque&o (o grande) circulo de amigos latinos.
    Normalmente tenemos unos cuantos amigos canadienses y la relacion con la mayoria es superficial.

    Tu activa participacion en los coros, en la iglesia, en los deportes y muchas otras actividades te colocan como un caso especial.
    Muy pocos lo hacen en la primera generacion, la mayoria de quienes lo consiguen son los hijos de los inmigrantes.

  5. Arturo, muchas gracias por tu comentario, lo aprecio especialmente. Me parece que en nuestro caso, todo pasa por el hecho de que nos relacionamos con la sociedad a traves del arte y las actividades de nuestros hijos. Se hace todo mucho más fácil de esa manera.

    Nosotros siempre fuimos muy extrovertidos y sociales, y en BsAs teníamos muchos -y muy buenos- amigos, ya sea relacionados con la música, el trabajo o el hecho de haber crecido veraneando en el mismo lugar.

    Venir a Canadá significó un cambio muy grande, pero nosotros nos propusimos tener una vida social tan activa -o más aún- que la que teníamos antes. Fue una muy buena forma de forzarnos a hablar el nuevo idioma más seguido. Lo curioso es que si bien tenemos muchos amigos y de distintos grupos -la iglesia, los amigos de la comunidad latina, los argentinos viviendo en otras ciudades-, nosotros nos relacionamos con todos. Por caso, mientras yo estaba en Windsor por el futbol, Gaby se pasó el sábado en casa de nuestra comadre Isabel (chilena y tal vez la principal promotora de la integración de los inmigrantes en esta región) y el domingo con Carlos (argentino) que es quien organiza los shows de tango aquí. Yo visité a nuestros amigos argentinos en London hace sólo diez días, y ambos (Gaby y yo) salimos con nuestro grupo de 'cuarentones' de la iglesia el viernes por la noche, y sabes qué? La pasamos genial! Tanto, que mañana voy a escribir sobre ello.

    Nuevamente, te agradezco muchísimo tus comentarios. Analítico como eres, el 90% de lo que me dices ni siquiera lo había notado! :-)

  6. Arturo, me quedó una 'yapa', como decimos en Argentina, porque me puse a pensar en que a mi esposa le costó más que a mí integrarse...

    Pero no hace mucho, fuimos a uno de esos eventos multiculturales que organiza nuestra amiga Isabel. El teatro estaba completamente lleno, y estaba todo el 'quién es quién' de la comunidad latina, pero también de las artes en general de la región. A todos estos últimos, yo los conozco casi a todos por mi rol como director de Fundraising del coro en el que cantaba, los Renaissance Singers. Hemos tenido reuniones, eventos, etc etc.

    Pero ahí estaba yo parado en medio del teatro, y cada vez que se acercaba uno de ellos -latino o local- era para saludar...a Gaby, porque o la conocían porque ella se encarga de la comida en casi todos estos eventos, o la conocían porque aparece en TV.

    Yo, que en los papeles era el más 'famoso' de los dos, ahí estaba parado como si fuera una figura de cartón corrugado. Y la verdad, la situación me pareció divertidísima! :-)
