Fame!

Canada I just received a huge surprise. Vanina, who is in charge of the weblog section of the "Clarín" newspaper (the biggest circulation in Argentina), has wrote a post about me and my award!

This has to be the work of Guillermo Ziegler, who promptly told her about it. I also know -but had forgotten to mention here originally- that Mike from "Pehuajeando pa'l mundo" had also contacted different newspapers. Then I found out that Xel-Ha had also contacted Vanina! My deepest thanks to all of them.

My first reaction was to think "This is way too much" but then I reconsidered; as I said to Vanina, maybe my story can make people realize that moving to another country is not as easy as it may seem. As I always say (especially on Guillermo's blog), don't expect the Prime Minister to be waiting for you at the airport, with your job offer, the key to your car and the deed to your new house... not everybody will go through a first year like we did, but this is not easy.

I now have to get ready for the avalanche of readers, so I will include the links here:

The story in PDF format (in English): here

Thank you, Vanina! And to all of you, please feel free to drop a comment!

  1. I loved your coming to Canada series.
I think that you and Gaby are so brave. I would never have the courage to leave behind everything I know to move to whole other world.
I think of Gaby and her struggle with the language, and you being here, alone, looking for work...Honestly, I am in awe.

  2. Thank you, Biddie. You were one of the first 'fans' of this story.

Now a lot of people are reading it and leaving their comments at Clarin's website, some showing that intolerance that is so tipically ours...

And re: Gaby, you see her now, teaching three nights a week, with a blossoming catering business, fully independent, and it's hard to believe where we were seven years ago.

  5. Jaja... no problem.
