Live from… Mexico City, Mexico

(En español más abajo)

Canada
I don’t get to blog from a new country every day! :-) I’m in Mexico City since Tuesday afternoon, which means I could add a new flag icon to my posts after quite a few years. I’m here for 9 days, working on a software upgrade at a local hospital, a task that normally gets a little complicated, and even though it looked like it was going to be fine at first, it’s now on its way to become as demanding as I expected.

Unlike most cases, this time I flew from the local airport. After a short stop in Chicago, with an endless wait at customs, I barely made my second flight, that deposited me in the land of the chilangos (it’s the way people from the capital city call themselves, though I should probably use defeños, because some people still resent the word chilango, that used to be a derogatory term. The flight was quite fast, mostly because I had internet service and worked the entire time, to the point that I got mad when internet went down, and the reason was that we were already landing…

I don’t think this trip will be much different than others in terms of me enjoying some free time. I will settle for the opportunity of going out for dinner next Tuesday night, just right before I leave. In the meantime, I will treat this trip like I always do: I’m here to work. If I have to work 20-hour days, well, no problem. Unlike my colleagues here, I don’t have a home to return to at the end of the day. I miss Gaby and the kids a lot, and the bad communications are not helping, but I have still been able to get in touch with my family often, so everything will be OK.
