Silly Monkey Stories #136 - Too nice to tell the truth

(En español más abajo)

Canada 06/Feb/2011 – Florencia (7)

Part of my duties as a father include teasing my kids at all times and trying to get them to say things that I will use against them for years. Take Flor, for example. In addition to this game we have going on in which she cannot say the word 'dog' (or any synonyms) without me chasing her to get into a tickling war, she has to endure the same gruelling questionnaire every time we are alone:

- Flor, who do you love the most, me or Mom?
- (Tired) I love you both the same.
- Yes... but you love me a little better, right?
- (Firmly) No, I love you both the same.

Then I proceed to interrupt her when I ask her 'Who's girl are you?'. She will always reply 'Daddy and Mommy', but I make sure I say 'Daddy' again as she's saying 'Mommy', which causes her to repeat her answer over and over again, at different speeds and with different volume, until I 'give up'. It's all in good fun and she knows it (so does 'Mommy', luckily for me).

But I made a mistake last Sunday. As Gaby was making dinner for us, I asked Flor:

- Flor, who's the better cook, me or Mom?
- ...
- Flor, you hear me? Who's the better cook, me or Mom?

Flor thought about it and soon realized that there was no way she could give me the standard answer this time, so she went for a response that could mitigate the damage. Without even mention the question I had asked, she said:

- But you make me laugh...

- Flor, quién cocina mejor, Mami o yo?
- ...
- Flor, me oís?

Jen, let's hope her cuteness continues to make up for some of these 'clever' comments... :-)
