Silly Monkey Stories #84 – Homework

It was a different day yesterday. To be honest, the last two or three days have felt different. You probably noticed the lack of blogging activity in the last few days… it’s just not a time of the year in which I’m particularly well. Yesterday was the fourth anniversary of my father’s tragic death, and consciously or not, his absence is more visible these days. What did I do this past weekend, then? I slept. About 15 hours on Saturday and another 10 on Sunday. Twenty five hours in total, pretty much the amount of sleep I normally get in a week! :-)

But life goes on, and I can afford de luxury of letting my mood get in between me and my family, so yesterday I came back from work ready to help the kids with their homework, like every Monday. Santi is on a short break from school, and Juan didn’t have anything due tomorrow, so it was just the girls who needed help. Carolina got everything under control, so I dedicated my attention to Florencia, who had to read a fairly big book. But there was a problem.

The book was about dogs! In case you don’t remember or you don’t know, we have a game going on with Florencia for almost three years, in which I will chase her and tickle her if she ever said the word ‘dog’ in any language. You should see how good she is at avoiding saying that word!

She didn’t want to read the book in front of me, of course. But I promised I wouldn’t do anything, and she fell for it.

She said ‘dog’ once, and I grabbed as quickly as I could and took her over the couch for a quick round of tickles, then brought her back to the kitchen. She looked at me and said:

- OK, that’s it, Daddy, you already tickled me.
- Sure, let’s do homework now.

She doesn’t know me, evidently. The next time she said ‘dog’, I just did exactly the same. And then again, and again, until I had to stop because we were both running out of breath, due to the running… and the laughter.

It took us about 30 minutes to go through the first paragraph! :-) I was exhausted after ‘doing homework’, but I had something that I hadn’t had in about three days, thanks to Flor.

A smile.

Me miró y me dijo:
