Embarrassing moments

We went to Michigan last weekend, to get Santi's new apartment ready for him to move this Sunday. While in there, I had some problems at work so I pretty much had to work all weekend, with very -very- little sleeping time at night. On our way back, and after driving for about 30 minutes, I told Gaby that it would be better if she drove, because I was way too tired. She then sat behind the wheel and I finally got some (at least I think so) well-deserved sleep.

I woke up a few km before the border crossing and I was still in a daze when we stopped at the booth. Knowing that Gaby was behind the wheel and she had our passports, I sat back again and promptly disabled the 'roaming' feature of my US phone, so I wouldn't be paying a fortune on data charges until I got home.

While I was so busy doing that, I did not realize that the border officer would have probably wanted to speak to me... because we were still there!

- Sir, is that you are doing so important that it cannot wait??

Very embarrassed, I apologized for my absent-mindedness and explained to her that I was too tired and had just waken up, etc.

Like she would care! :-(

El fin de semana pasado fuimos a Michigan a ayudar a Santi a preparar su inminente mudanza este domingo. Estando allí, aparecieron problemas en el trabajo por lo que tuve que trabajar todo el fin de semana, con poco –muy poco– tiempo para dormir. Camino de vuelta, y luego de manejar por unos 30 minutos, le dije a Gaby que sería mejor si ella manejara, porque yo estaba muy cansado. Ella se puso detrás del volante y finalmente pude disfrutar de un poco de (al menos yo lo creo así) merecido descanso.

Me desperté unos km antes de cruzar la frontera y estaba aún un poco ‘boleado’ cuando paramos en la garita. Sabiendo que Gaby estaba al volante y tenía los pasaportes, me recliné de nuevo y me puse a desactivar el ‘roaming’ de mi teléfono con número americano, así no tenía que pagar una fortuna de cargos de datos hasta que llegara a casa.

Estaba tan ocupado haciendo eso, que ni me percaté del hecho de que tal vez la agente de frontera querría hablar conmigo… porque aún estábamos allí!

- Señor, es tan importante lo que está haciendo que no puede esperar??

Muy avergonzado, me disculpé por mi distracción y le expliqué que estaba muy cansado y recién me había despertado, etc, etc.

Como si le fuera a importar! :-(
