Rien ne va plus (*)

USA

I'm not somebody who likes to gamble. I almost never purchase lottery tickets (I see them as the Government tax on people who are bad at Probability and Math), and I am not too fond of going to casinos, horse races or places like that. Last night was an exception, as I went to the huge Harrah's casino after I left work (at around 5:30 PM). The funny thing is that I didn't go to the casino because I wanted to lose some money, but because... the only Fuddrucker's in town is inside the casino and I wanted a big ass burger!

But since I was there...

I sat at the roulette table (only game I might be interested in playing) and gave the lady $20 of the $60 I was willing to waste last night. She gave me 20 $1 chips and I placed three of them on the table. First embarrassing moment of the evening:

- Sir, minimum bet is $10...

Ten dollars??? I would lose all my money in just two balls. Grumbling, I took seven more chips and scattered around the table. First ball of my night was 22, and I had it covered!! I got 18 chips back, so my total went to $38. I wanted to leave already. At that moment, I get a  text message from my wife saying "bet on #22"... I was about to reply to her when I got admonished by the lady croupier. Second embarrassing moment of the evening:

- Sir... using cell phones while at the table is forbidden!

I took nine chips and distributed them across the table. Next number called was #15, and not only I had it, I had three chips covering it! I got $36 back and I was desperate to leave at that point. I left those three chips and bet another seven, assuming that was going to be my last bet of the night. How many times in a row one can win?

Three, apparently, because it was #15 again!!!

I got greedy. I bet about $17 to $20 in the next round, already thinking about how was I going to spend so much money. The lady called #3 and I got cleaned. I told her I needed to cash out so I could make a call, but that I would be back. I took my money and quickly left to have a burger. I was gone from the casino within the hour, $50 richer and with a full stomach.

If you are a gambler, you're probably sick to your stomach while reading this. But that's how I normally behave at these places. I won three times in a row in my first three rounds, there was no way I was going to top that!!!

  1. I love casinos. And you know, a few more wins and you would have been hooked into the, "I didn't come here to make some change--I came here to change my life!!!"

My wife and I go about once a year. I lose a little, she wins a little. The natural order of the world is maintained.

  2. Genial Gaby!!
