My school

CanadaI went back to my school on Saturday. This is, the place where I attended Grades 1, 4 and 5… I know, just three years. Still my school. I have attended many others, in some cases for more than three years in a row, but the “Colegio Alemán” is still the one I remember. Or so I thought.

Since I got there very early for last Saturday’s barbecue, I asked my former schoolmate Matías if I could walk around and take some pictures, to which he of course agreed. I started to walk, thinking that I would remember everything about the school… and I drew a blank. Even the classroom looked different to me (and how little those benches were!).

The Principal’s office, one of the places I would spend most of my time, had been moved to a different place, who knows how long ago. The stairs going to the backyard were still there, but they had put big patio tiles instead of those red bricks we would dig holes in to be able to play with our marbles. Oh, and that was all covered now; there was no roof before.

I was still walking around, amazed at how little everything was (the classroom, the washrooms, the kitchen), when it finally hit me: 32 years had passed.

I used to be little too. I just can’t remember that.

My Grade 5 classroom. I would sneak out of school through a window similar to the one shown on the left…

  5. I'm not really welcome in any of my schools. Some teachers loved me, but others said having me there was a waste of air-condition.

Well, that's high school. I don't remember anything about elementary school. A friend of mine peed his pants once. I remember that.
