Retirement plans

Canada

We were talking with some friends about our plans for when we retire. Though it's my dream (and Gaby's) to open a bed and breakfast once we're done being yelled at at the office, I'm realistically expecting to work until I can't work anymore, because I know I'm not going to have enough money when the time for me to retire comes.

I have no issues with that. One of the high prices I paid for coming here was the fact that I had to start from scratch at 35, in more than one sense. I had been working for 18 years in Argentina and I was quite good at what I was doing, but all that counted for nothing once I moved here. Those are the rules of this game; if you're not willing to accept them, you should stay home.

All that being said, I came up with this little plan for when I retire, which I shared with my friends:

- This is what I'm planning to do: I will pretty much work until I die; then I will work for 10 years as a dead body in whatever CSI franchise is still on TV. After that, I will sell my body for parts, and with that money I will finally be able to retire.

I thought it was very funny or at least very creative, yet nobody laughed or complimented me… pure jealousy, I guess.

  1. Sounds like a reasonable plan to me, work work and work some more. My husband and I have tossed around the idea of a B&B as well but the more I look into it the more unlikely it seems that we will ever be able to do it.

  8. That's a pretty good plan, and given the number of CSI and similar shows on TV, I'm pretty sure dead bodies role are in demand! ;-)
