You will have to believe me

CanadaI’m at the airport in Toronto, about to board my flight to Virginia. Everything is under control this time (i.e. I haven’t forgot my wallet and the limo company I called this time is just down the road from home, so there was no way they could get lost)…

There was a long line at the check in, but to my joy, I got called by the lady just in front of me. My right leg is still killing me, so I’m trying to walk as little as possible. I did customs (since I have a Nexus card, it was a very quick process; I should write about this later on, because it’s really cool!). Then it was time to take off our clothes…

I put shoes, coins, glasses, everything on those plastic bins. I asked if I needed to remove my belt as well. Let me look at it… No, you don’t have to”. Still, as I walked through that little gate, I heard the dreaded “beeeeep”.

- Please stand still and extend your arms…

The lady passed that metal detector all over my tiny body, and then I heard the '”beep” again. It can’t be my belt, I thought. It’s in my back! Did I leave my cellphone in there? I can’t be that dumb!

I wasn’t that dumb. It wasn’t my phone, it was my… butt.

This is probably the second time it has ever happened to me (I remember the first one was while I was flying from Buenos Aires to Necochea). A little embarrassed, I told the lady:

- Um… I had a broken hip a few years ago and I have several little pieces of metal in there. You will have to believe me!

I guess she wasn’t interested in verifying if I was telling the truth or not, because she let me go…

Argentina

No, no hace falta”.

  3. Interesting.... They let you go really easy, which is great because you were telling the truth so its no problem. But it makes you wonder.... about the future people who might do this.

  6. I laughed :-D

Glad she believed you! Mind you, I'm sure a lot of people have the same problem, they must be used to it. Flying back to Ottawa tomorrow, can't wait for more stupid security... :-(
