Manic Monday #35

CanadaQuestion #1 - What is the most useful gift you’ve ever been given?
Once again, the iPod Classic that Gaby bought me. It's the perfect companion for my long trips. And I'm just dying to use it with my new noise cancelling headphones next time I have to take a plane!

Question #2 - Name the most terrifying moment of your life so far.
I can name four, in chronological order:

1) It happened in early 1997. Santi was just walking around the house, when we suddenly realized he was falling all over the place. At first, we thought he was just playing. Then we realized that he was really losing his balance, and he was always falling to the same side. We feared he had taken a pill or something, and we just flew to the hospital. We were told that he might be suffering from ataxia, so they put him down and did some tests on him. The results were normal, and he was discharged the following morning. He never had a symptom like that again, and we never found out why this had happened.

2) This one happened on May 4th, 2004. Juan had a high fever, so I was taking care of him while waiting for Gaby to come back (then I had to take Santi to his soccer game). As I was on the phone, I suddenly saw Juan jumping up and down on the couch. Before I could ask him "What are you doing?" I realized he was having a seizure. I grabbed him and held him, and watched him pass out on my arms, as I was already talking to the 911 operator. The ambulance and firemen arrived while I was still on the phone. I spent the whole night in the hospital with Juan and then he was discharged the following morning. The seizure was attributed to a fever peak and it was said to be normal for a kid his age. He never had an episode like that again.

3) That same year, but around Florencia's birthday. I had just gone to the washroom, when I hear my mother in law yelling "No! Florencia!". I got out and found Florencia with one of my pills in her mouth (the ones for my heart!!). She didn't even get to have a bite, but I still called 911 and wasn't at ease until a few hours passed and Florencia showed no symptoms.

4) Again with Flor, this one in early 2005, while my father and his wife Cristina was visiting. Again, I was coming out of the washroom when I see Florencia (then 1.5 years old) sitting at the top of the stairs, leaning back. I yelled "NO!" and literally dove towards her. My hand closed and barely missed her. All I could do was watch her roll down the stairs bouncing like a ball, until she stop at the very bottom. She cried, got up and was walking again within a minute. It took me nearly half an hour to get up, as I had hit my right knee against the wall and almost dislocated my left shoulder against the top post.

Question #3 - One hot summer afternoon, while walking through a parking lot at a large shopping centre, you notice a dog suffering badly from the heat inside a locked car. What would you do?
I will call a security guy or a police officer first; if I don't find anybody then I might break the window. I won't let the poor thing die, that's for sure.

Saludos.
