Guilt

CanadaIt happened on Monday. Juan had a soccer practice at 6 PM, and I wasn't expecting too many kids to show up. It was a holiday here in Canada (Victoria Day) and it was also cold and rainy. Juan and Santi were over some friends, so I went to pick them up at 5:00. Santi was invited to go to his friend's soccer game, so I only brought Juan with me.

As I was driving towards the field, I soon realize that I was going to be there over half an hour early. Not a smart thing to do, since the weather was so bad. So I decided to make a strategical stop and went to a Tim Hortons for a coffee and maybe a donut for Juan.

"Let's go inside, we still have time", I told Juani as we parked. He looked back at me, a little wearily, but eventually got out of the car and followed me.

Just as we were about to open the door, he called me.

"Dad", he said looking at me with those huge eyes he has, "are we going to talk?".

I had to bite my lips not to laugh in his face. I could see what he was thinking! ("Man, I must have screwed up again, and Dad is going to 'talk' to me... but I don't remember what I've done!"). I managed to keep my composure somehow, and actually replied, faking outrage: "Man! Can't a guy go out for a coffee with his son these days??!!"

But all I could think was "Oh, when I tell Gaby about this..." :-)

Argentina

  4. Can you imagine how he felt when he finally realized we was NOT in trouble?
