Embarrassing moments

I normally have lots of meetings and conference calls, and they all seem to happen between 1:00 and 3:00 PM, so whenever I have a morning call that leaves me little time to grab some lunch. That was exactly the case that day, as I finished with my last online session at around 12:50 PM and my next call was at 1:30 PM.

“I have 40 minutes”, I thought, “If I hurry, I can go get me some food and come back with enough time to prepare for the next call”. I called Ming’s, my favourite Chinese restaurant in the world, and order the usual: a Combo #6 (fried rice with Szechuan chicken, with no vegetables). I grabbed my stuff as quickly as I could and rushed to the elevator. About three days later (the elevator at work is very slow), I got out and started to walk in the parking lot…

I had to turn around, go back upstairs, stand in front of everybody and say:

- I ordered takeout food and I forgot I don’t have a car today… Can anybody take me to Ming’s?

Thank God for kind co-workers who choose to ignore my stupidity.

Normalmente tengo muchas reuniones y llamadas en conferencia, y todas parecen estar programadas para el período entre la 1:00 y las 3:00 PM, así que cuando tengo llamadas en la mañana también, me queda poco tiempo para comer. Ese fue el caso el otro día, ya que terminé con mi última sesión online a eso de las 12:50 PM y mi siguiente conferencia era a la 1:30 PM.

“Tengo 40 minutos”, pensé, “Si me apuro, me da como para ir a buscarme algo de comer bien rápido y tener tiempo para prepararme para la próxima llamada”. Llamé a Ming’s, mi restaurante Chino preferido en todo el mundo, y ordené lo de siempre: un Combo #6 (arroz frito con pollo en salsa Szechuan, sin verduras). Manoteé mi billetera lo más rápido que pude y rajé para el ascensor. Como tres días más tarde (el ascensor de la oficina es lentísimo), salí a la calle y comencé a caminar por el estacionamiento…

Me tuve que pegar la vuelta, volver arriba, pararme en frente de todos y decir:

- Pedí comida por teléfono y me olvide de que hoy no tengo auto… Alguien me puede llevar a Ming’s?

Gracias a Dios tengo compañeros amables que eligen ignorar mi estupidez.
