Soccer season is now over for two of my kids, as Juan had his 'End of season' tournament this past weekend.

My son was lucky, because he actually had a really good team and a very good coach, who was able to teach them really good skills in spite of his physical challenges. They went into the playoffs without having lost a single match (and just a couple of ties). Juan played in every position throughout the season, sine-qua-non condition for when you play in House League. Forward was his favourite one, though, and he scored a few goals. But for the playoffs, he played in the net for every game, and did quite well.

They suffered their first and only loss of the season in the third game of the mini-tournament, but they still did good enough to secure a spot in the semis.

On Sunday morning, Juan showed up to play the semi-final game with his hair dyed bright green! He had an easy game as his team cruised 3-0 on his way to the final.

The championship game was much more demanding, and both keepers saw quite some action until they went to halftime with the score 0-0. Juan did exceptionally well in the second half, with some amazing diving saves. He did take one goal in (his own teammate sent it in with a header off a corner kick) but in the end they won 3-1 and Juan was able to pick up his first Outdoor soccer trophy (he had won two indoor soccer tournaments in the past).

He's very happy and very proud, and he has every reason to be! His dad is proud too...

La temporada de fútbol se ha cerrado para dos de mis hijos, ahora que Juan tuvo su 'Torneo Final' el fin de semana pasado.

Mi hijo tuvo suerte, porque le tocó un equipo muy bueno, lo mismo que su coach, que se las arregló para enseñarle muy bien a pesar de sus dificultades físicas. Llegaron a los playoffs sin haber perdido un solo partido (y con apenas un par de empates). Juan jugó en todas las posiciones, algo que es condición sine qua non cuando uno juega en 'House League'. Su posición favorita fue la de delantero, sin embargo, y se las arregló para anotar algunos goles. Pero para los playoffs jugó todos los partidos en el arco, y anduvo muy bien.

Sufrieron la única derrota de la temporada en el tercer partido del mini-torneo, pero igual su equipo anduvo lo suficientemente bien como para asegurarse un lugar en las semifinales.

El domingo por la mañana Juan apareció con el pelo teñido de verde 'furioso' para jugar la semifinal! Tuvieron un partido fácil, y su equipo ganó 3-0 para pasar a la final casi sin despeinarse.

El partido por el título fue mucho más exigente, y ambos arqueros estuvieron bien ocupados hasta que fueron al entretiempo con el score 0-0. Juan anduvo increíblemente bien en la segunda parte, y hasta se anotó con algunas atajadas muy buenas. Le hicieron un gol, pero fue un gol en contra (de cabeza) a la salida de un corner. Al final, el resultado fue de 3-1 y Juan por fin pudo levantar un trofeo de verano (ya antes había ganado dos de 'indoor soccer').

Está muy feliz y muy orgulloso, y tiene buen motivo para estarlo! Su padre también está orgulloso, por supuesto...
