Silly Monkey Stories #111 – Forty-five

(En español más abajo)

Canada15/Aug/2010 – Juan (11)

We had a busy weekend, as Santi had a soccer tournament in Brantford (which we won) and Carolina had another one in Stratford (they lost in semifinals). We had no option but to split, so me and the boys went to Santi’s tournament (after all, I’m his assistant coach) and Gaby, Florencia and my mother in law went to see Carolina in action. Once her team got eliminated, they all came to Brantford and joined us for the final game.

Santi team’s won, so everybody got a very nice trophy. The head coach won a soccer backpack and a gift certificate. I got nothing! :-)

We came back home at around 7:00 PM on Sunday, and the day wasn’t over: I had tickets to take Juan to the movie theatre… to see WWE’s “SummerSlam”, the second biggest pay-per-view of the year. Juan was completely caught by surprise and kept thanking me throughout the whole evening (he’s a big fan; I just tagged along but actually enjoyed the show).

One of the fights involved one of the most popular wrestlers of all time, “The Undertaker” (my brother’s favourite) taking on his kayfabe brother “Kane” (which is my favourite). The scuffle ended with Kane decimating the Dead One and leaving. That’s when this dialogue ensued:

- I’m amazed these guys can still fight…
- Yes, but The Undertaker looked in a pretty rough shape.
- Oh, I think it was just about him selling his previous ‘injury’.
- I don’t know… He looks pretty old.
- (Guessing) Well… I think he’s 45, 47 years old (he’s actually 45).
- FOURTY FIVE???!!!! Man, he’s REALLY old!!!

Immediately after that, and after noticing that I was just a year and 3 months from reaching that age, Juan added:

- Well, I meant ‘old’ as in ‘too old to keep doing this wrestling thing’…

Nice attempt at recovery, Juan. Too bad the damage to my self esteem has already been inflicted...

A mí no me dieron nada! :-)

- No sé… parece bastante viejo.
- (Estimando) Bueno… creo que tendrá unos 45 ó 47 años (resultó tener 45).
- CUARENTA Y CINCO????!!!!

  1. Well, at least he tried to take his foot out of his mouth. I'm afraid to ask my children about my and my husband's ages for fear of what they will say. :P
