Silly Monkey Stories #67 – Yup, that’s where it goes

Canada05/Oct/2009 – Carolina (12)

I was helping the kids do their homework, something I come back early from work for on Mondays, as Gaby teaches Spanish and Cooking between 3:30 and 9:00 PM. Once I was done with Juan and Carolina, and made sure Santi was on the right track with his research work, I was able to focus on Florencia’s work.

She was supposed to write words with the short ‘i’ sound (like ‘him’, ‘did’ or ‘click’). Once she was done writing the words, it was time for her to come up with three sentences featuring those words. The first one she came up with was “I went to a big party”, which I found very good. So she started to write, while Carolina was watching.

Florencia went through the first few words with ease, but then stopped when it was time for her to write ‘party’. I made sure she left the required space in between words (a pinky finger) and then we made the phonetic sounds, so Flor would know how to spell that word. I finally asked, in order to see if she knew where to start writing the next word:

- Do you know where the ‘p’ goes?

That was enough for Carolina, who quickly replied:

- Sure, Dad! In the toilet!!!

They all laughed and laughed, while I was sitting there, feeling like I had been set up by myself…
