Canada
I’m still so mad… Let’s recapitulate: We bought a digital camera about two weeks ago, for Santi to use during his trip to Argentina. I took it with me that weekend and took all the pictures of Cornwall you saw today with it, along with the pictures and video of that beautiful girl called Angelica. When we were purchasing it, I asked about how to charge the battery, because I didn’t see anything other than the USB cable (it was an ‘open box’ sale). The clerk replied that all it took was to connect the camera to a computer and I believed him.

Big mistake. Santi called me last night, desperate because his camera was dead after one day of usage (did you see his pictures here?). I looked at the contents of the box, which I still had with me and… no charger. There should have been one, but it wasn’t there. Either the guy from Future Shop had no idea of what he was talking about or he just lied to us.

Went to Future Shop today, asking for a battery charger for the camera, and of course they had none. The options they gave me were not satisfactory: a $40 rebate, that then went up to $50 so I could by the charger somewhere else. You can probably get one from eBay for about $10”, another clerk said, to which I replied Yes, and who knows it’s going to take, plus I have to pay for shipping and handling; and all that to get a charger that I don’t know if it works or not”. Tired of arguing and going nowhere, but most importantly tired of being asked if I had seen the contents of the package, as if they were implying that I actually had the charger after all, I demanded a solution for my problem.

“Go to the store across the street and you will find a charger for the camera; it’s probably going to cost you $40, $50, which we will reimburse to you”. Reluctantly, I went to the store across the street and inquired about the charger. They didn’t have it, of course, and even if they did it would have been $55 plus taxes (about $62). They did have a ‘universal’ one, that was $79.99, which with the taxes ended being $90.23. I bought it, of course, and went straight back to Future Shop.

The store manager said he wouldn’t reimburse me such an amount, to which I replied: ”Perfect. Then this is what I’m going to do: I will ask my son to FedEx this camera today. Once I get it, I will bring it here. You will pay me the cost of having brought it back, and then you will give me a full refund. Then I will go and buy a camera somewhere else, because I’m never coming back here”. To my surprise, the store manager agreed (doesn’t he know that it’s going to cost about $100 to send the camera back?).

In the meantime, we went back to the store where I had purchased the charger and returned it, buying another camera, which we will send to Santi on Monday, since our friend Carlos is travelling to Argentina that day.

I’m very angry, very sad for Santi, and –of course- I’m about $200 poorer until the camera gets back here…

Argentina

Saludos.

  4. Que situación! Justo ahora que Santi esta de viaje. Lo bueno es que pudiste solucionarlo. Si no "pataleabas" seguro no conseguias nada.

  5. That sucks!I don't like Futureshop, it's like nobody cares about anything in this store. I was going to buy a laptop last years and asked for a few info and they kept on saying I don't know anything and that I should buy the most expensive one in the store because "I needed it".I ended up buying at Best Buy, people were nicer and more helpful!

  9. I would have been livid. It seems as though nobody wants to stand behind their products and there is no such thing as customer satisfaction anymore. You have just warned a ton of people about shopping at Future Shop... Actually, now that you mention it, Shawn and I bought KC and Jessica's cameras there last year and we were treated pretty poorly...Hmmm...Almost seems like a trend!
