Eat your greens

My grandmother Haydée used to do this. Whenever she made white rice, she would put a few drops of food colouring, so each one of her grandchildren would have rice with the colours of their soccer team. It was a lot of fun, though I remember my brothers' rice looking much better than mine. Our colours would be:
  • Guillermo (my older brother): blue and yellow, after Boca Juniors
  • Martín (my younger brother): red and blue, after San Lorenzo
  • Me: either red and white (after River Plate) or blue and white (after Vélez Sarsfield)
  • My two cousins, Germán and Cristian, would both pick light blue and white, after Racing Club.
Me and my brothers, however, would ocassionally choose to have our rice coloured after our favourite local team, so it was green and white for the three of us, after our beloved Estación Quequén.

With all this in mind, I cooked white rice tonight. After I put the butter and the salt, I suddenly realized it looked too boring... Here's the result (and the kids ate it all):

But that wasn't all... I was also in charge of preparing the lunch boxes for tomorrow, so here you go...

Clockwise from top left: Purple (Carolina), pink (Florencia), red (Santi) and multi-colour (Juan)

It's Gaby's fault, she should know better. Leaving me in charge of the food... at least I ate my greens tonight!

  1. Very cool. I can't believe the lunches that you pack! Makes the bagel and cucumber and granola bar combination that my kids take seem very boring! Maybe if I colour the rice, Jessie will eat more of it?
